ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the impact of emotional intelligence on academic performance of senior secondary school students in selected secondary schools in Sango Ota , Ogun State. Specifically, the study examined the level of emotional intelligence of senior secondary school students is high. The study also checked if there is a relationship between emotional intelligence skills and academic achievement among senior secondary school student. Furthermore ,the study checked if there is a relationship between the emotional intelligence and academic performance of senior secondary school students. Lastly , the study examines the effect of emotional intelligence of arts and science student of senior secondary school students. A total of 77 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that the level of emotional intelligence of senior secondary school students is high. Also, there is a relationship between emotional intelligence skills and academic achievement among senior secondary school student. Furthermore, There is a relationship between the emotional intelligence and academic performance of senior secondary school students. Lastly, there are effect of emotional intelligence of arts and science student of senior secondary school students. The study hereby recommend that school managers and administrators should organize work shop on regular bases to train the teachers and students on the importance of developing emotional intelligence. Also , that government, school managers and administrators should give out awards and scholarship to motivate group of students that have worked cooperatively to achieve academic excellence
